Orbital ATKis currently seeking an experiencedTooling & Support Equipment Engineer (Sr. Manufacturing Engineer)to join ourEngineering and Test Operationsteam in ourKennedy Space Center (KSC, FL)offices.

Role description & Responsibilities:

As a Tooling & Support Equipment Engineer you will be responsible to develop concepts, create designs, administer fabrication, determine inspection requirements, and manage ongoing maintenance activities for tooling and support equipment at the KSC launch site for the Space Launch System program.

Job Duties:

  • Manage and maintain existing tooling and support equipment; mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, corrosion prevention, welding, and pressure systems

  • Evaluate, analyze and disposition tool discrepancies

  • Work with internal customers to develop concepts for needed support equipment

  • Develop tooling concepts to improve manufacturing processes

  • Collaborate with Tool Designers to create and issue final design package

  • Perform analysis to assure tools and equipment design meet Orbital ATK design standards for in-house tooling and NASA standards for support equipment shared (rotational) with NASA

  • Develop test and inspection plans to verify tools and equipment meet design

  • Oversee tool and equipment fabrication process (internal or vendor)

  • Support Operations and Manufacturing Engineering in the use of all tooling and support equipment

  • Work alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery and cost objectives are achieved

Experience Requirements:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 4 years of Mechanical design experience.

  • Candidate must have a NX modeling experience

  • Experience with closed form and FW analysis practices; Prefer NX and ANSYS systems

  • Experience with TeamCenter Unified Architecture (TCUA)

Experience Preferred:

  • Knowledge of welding, machining and fabrication

  • Electrical Engineering a strong plus

  • Experience with closed form and FW analysis practices; Prefer NX and ANSYS systems

  • Experience with TeamCenter Unified Architecture (TCUA)

  • Strong understanding and experience using MAXIMO software

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.


  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.

  • BS/MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required with 4 years experience, or MS degree with 2 years experience, or PhD.

  • This position can be filled at the lower level
