Orbital ATK employs students from a variety of disciplines, including technical and engineering fields. College students may receive hands-on projects involved with such areas as the design, build and support work on space systems that support scientific missions to study near-earth and other space environments, and to advance new technologies. During these internships, a major project will be assigned and/or many discrete opportunities will be available. In many cases, internships serve as a potential stepping stone to full time employment.

Orbital ATK is currently looking to fill an intern position to support our Contracts team in the San Diego, California facility of our Space Components Division, which specializes in space deployables such as solar arrays and instrument booms. While working as a summer intern for Orbital ATK – San Diego you will be given the opportunity to learn/strengthen the following skills in a professional environment.

As anIntern in the Contractsgroup you will support the following areas:

  • Learning to interface with the prime customer and/or government on contractual issues

  • Learning about flow down of required terms and conditions to subcontractors

  • Coordinating with Finance on the invoicing process

  • Learning the contracts data base and how to tracking invoices through payment

  • Tracking contract deliverables including CDRL/SDRL

  • Learn to review, analyze, and negotiate prime and government Terms and Conditions as well as Statement of Work requirements

  • Learn to prepare and assemble change order proposals in accordance with company procedures

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications, Cost Point is a plus

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment interacting with various levels of employee management across multiple technical groups

  • Excellent people and communication skills (written, presentation and verbal)

  • Teamwork attitude and work ethic

  • Ability to multitask, and prioritize work

  • Demonstrates initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and highly motivated for excellence

  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement with a focus on customer service excellence
