Job Description for Senior Principal System Design Engineer

Orbital ATK Defense Electronics Systems is a division of the Orbital ATK Defense Group. Our facility in Northridge, CA is seeking candidates for the Integrated Project Team lead responsible for the Control Actuation System (CAS).

Position Description

The Systems Engineer will be acting as the lead for the Integrated Project Team on the Control Actuator System (CAS) for a missile program. This CAS IPT lead will be responsible for all phases of the CAS development including requirements and interfaces, supplier competition and management, technical development oversight, and serve as the CAS technical lead interfacing with other engineering disciplines. This candidate will also work closely with the program management team to provide technical status, cost and schedule updates.

Education Required:

  • BS, Engineering

  • MS, Engineering Desired

Experience Required:

  • 10-20 years in aerospace/defense

  • Working knowledge of electro-mechanical control actuation systems

  • Experience with supplier management

  • Project management experience

  • Functional design, performance trade space, cost trade space

  • Requirements derivation

  • Impact of environmental conditions

  • Functional power and data interface

  • Interface and sensitivity to system flight controls

  • Supplier liaison and communication

  • Drafting technical RFI/RFP documents

  • Leading and managing supplier competition

  • Cost, schedule, technical status reporting

  • Engineering team tasking and guiding

  • Excellent oral presentation skills

  • Team player/builder

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Problem solver
