Orbital ATK employs students from a variety of disciplines, including technical and engineering fields. College students may receive hands-on projects involved with such areas as the design, build and support work on space systems that support scientific missions to study near-earth and other space environments, and to advance new technologies. During these internships, a major project will be assigned and/or many discrete opportunities will be available. In many cases, internships serve as a potential stepping stone to full time employment.

Orbital ATK is currently looking to fill an intern position to support our Facilities team in the Commerce, California facility of our Space Components Division, which specializes in fuel tanks for the aerospace industry. While working as a summer intern for Orbital ATK – Commerce you will be given the opportunity to learn/strengthen the following skills in a professional environment.

The Commerce location has an immediate need for a Sr Level Engineering Student Intern to work in the Manufacturing Engineering Department.

Job Duties:Assist Tool Design Engineers with:Update tool drawings to incorporate all changesReverse engineer existing tools and create CAD models and tool drawingsAssist with tooling assembly and validation processesOrganizing and update tool logAdditional tasks as assigned

RequirementsGreat communication skillsGood tech background through related coursework and work experienceProficient in reading engineering drawings and understand CD&TGreat attention to detail and ability to reverse engineer toolingPrior experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment a plus

Proficient with MS word, excel, Vision & MS PowerPoint, CAD modeling and drafting. Working knowledge of Siemens Nx 8.5 a plus, general knowledge of rapid prototyping tech (3D printing a plus. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, planning, machining, welding and heat treat.

Own transportation, good attendance and ability to follow directions.
